About KSCP

Welcome message

To all members of the Korean Society of Cardiovascular Disease Prevention,

Hello. My name is Won-Young Lee, and I am the President of the Korean Society of Cardiovascular Disease Prevention (KSCP) for a 2-year term starting in 2021.

I wish you a happy new year in 2021, the year of the ox. I wish you and your family well-being and happiness this year. I feel a tremendous amount of responsibility on my shoulders, but I will strive to contribute to the development of the KSCP and public health by supporting the purposes of the society.

The KCSP was founded in 2010 by Professor Il Seo, Professor Taeyong Lee, Professor Byung-cheol Lee, Professor Sanghong Baek, and many outstanding professors. I am proud that the KSCP has made substantial contributions to the establishment of smoking cessation policies and the prevention of cardiovascular disease through its steady activities.

The KSCP has strived to improve public health through a multidisciplinary approach by working together with professors of internal medicine, neurology, and preventive medicine, researchers in the field of nutrition, kinesiology, and public health, and related government agencies. As aging progresses worldwide, the incidence of cardiovascular disease is increasing as well, and Korea is no exception. More proactive responses are required and the importance of managing cardiovascular risk factors cannot be overemphasized.

The smoking cessation rate is slowing down, and the management of hypertension, diabetes, and hyperlipidemia should be strengthened further. This will require close collaboration with government agencies and promotion to the public. It is also necessary to predict cardiovascular risk according to the characteristics of Koreans and to educate various age groups and occupational groups. The KCSP plans to engage in activities such as policy advice.

Cardiovascular Prevention and Pharmacotherapy (CPP) was launched in 2019 and is expanding its role as an all-English academic journal. We expect that CPP will soon develop into an international academic journal. The KSCP hosted an international conference in 2019 and plans to host regular academic conferences with excellent professors. We also plan to start new training courses. Through online research conferences and online academic lectures, we will share the latest medical knowledge with medical professionals, including medical students and residents. We will emphasize the necessity of disease prevention through academic colloquiums.

Although medicine and medical technology in Korea are continuing to develop, it is also important to endeavor to apply them to patients and improve their health. With our members and new executives, we would like to faithfully carry out the unique role of the KSCP.

I wish our members health and blessings, and promise to further advance the development of our society.

Thank you.
